Confirmation 1 Retreats – 2016 Make-up Retreat - $50 (For those that missed the year 1 retreat) - Christ Cathedral - 13280 Chapman Ave, Garden Grove, CA 92840
February 6, 2016 - (7am - 10pm) Drop off and pick up will be at St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Parish. If the candidate can not make this retreat, they will need to to attend another parishes year 1 retreat.

Grace Passes: All of the above activities are required for all Candidates. However, there are times when illness, family or other obligations can prevent a Candidate from attending a scheduled activity. Therefore, each Candidate will be given 3 Grace Passes to be used during the year. In order to use this pass, a parent must text to +1 (424) 703-3525 or email Joe Voigt prior to the workshop. Once a student uses 3 passes, it is expected that he/she will be at every scheduled activity. Grace Passes cannot be used for the Confirmation Retreat.
3. SERVICE HOURS
Each Confirmation candidate must complete 20 hours of service work per year. Service Hour Sheets must be completed, turned in and presented in their workshops on the following dates:
Thirty (30) or more hours (20 from Conf 1 and 10 for Conf 2): January 10, 2016. Candidates will be expected to share what they tuned in already from Conf 1.
Last Ten (10) : April 3, 2016
If Candidate completes, turns in and present their 40 hours at the January 10, 2016 workshop they do not have to present on April 3, 2016.
4. CONFIRMATION RETREATS
A. Confirmation 2 Overnight - January 22-24, 2016 – Julian, CA. If the candidate can not make this retreat, they will need to to attend another parishes year 2 retreat.
B.Sponsor/Candidate Evening of Reflection— Friday, May 13, 2016 at 7pm in the Church. Parent(s), family and sponsors are invited to attend.
5. RITUAL & SPECIAL EVENTS
A. Ritual of Continuing the Journey – September 20, 2015 at the Sun 5PM Mass*
B. Homeless Ministry Service Project – Candidates have already chosen their Sunday to work this ministry

6. SUNDAY MASS ATTENDANCE
The Mass and the Eucharist are the very center of our Catholic faith. The obligation to attend Sunday and Holy Day Masses and to avoid unnecessary work on those days is a responsibility for all Catholics. We expect all of our Candidates to understand and accept the rule, which is based on the Third Commandment. The Confirmation classes will attend Mass together at the Sunday 5pm on the nights of their confirmation workshops. In addition, all Candidates must participate in four masses as an usher, greeter, lector or choir member. If a candidate cannot attend mass, a parent must call/text to +1 (424) 703-3525 or email Joe Voigt prior to the workshop. No candidate will be excused from mass without this prior notification.
7. YOUTH MINISTRY PROGRAM
Each year of Confirmation candidates will be expected to attend at least three, six overall, Youth Ministry Nights (LinC) and/or LinC events of their choosing. We are asking each candidate to complete this requirement by the following schedule:
Four (4) LinC's (3 for Conf 1 and 1 for Conf 2) by: December 6, 2015
Five (5) LinC's (3 for Conf 1 and 2 for Conf 2) by: February 21, 2016
Six (6) LinC's (3 for both Conf 1 and 2) by: April 3, 2016
8. SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION
All students are required to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation during both the seasons of Advent and Lent.
9. LETTER TO THE BISHOP
Confirmation 2 Candidates are required to write a letter to the Bishop Salazar indicating a desire to receive, and reasons for wanting to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. It should be a statement of future commitment to study the faith and to advance the cause of Christ Jesus through His Church. Specific guidelines for the letter will be discussed on March 20, 2016. The Bishop Letter is due no later then April 3, 2016.
10. 2016 CONFIRMATION MASS AND REHEARSALS
A. The 2016 Confirmation Mass Rehearsal will be held on Friday, May 6, 2016 @ 8:15pm in the church. Candidate and sponsor must attend. If sponsor can not attend, a parent can fill in for them.
B. The 2016 Confirmation Mass will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 10am in the church. Candidates and sponsors please arrive at 9am and meet in Hegarty Hall for instructions and to line up, before processing into the Church. Candidates will receive their Confirmation Card, red stole and name badge with confirmation name on it at check in. Candidates and sponsors should then take their assigned seat in Hegarty Hall and await instructions. Other family members should go directly to the church. Both Candidate and a Sponsor will process in with Bishop Salazar at the beginning of Mass. Other family members will be seated in the non-reserved sections.
11. PARENT MEETINGS
Parents and/or guardians must attend both a Start of Program Meeting and Retreat Meeting. Each meeting will be offered twice and only twice. We will also host a Year-End meeting that is not mandatory. The meeting times, dates and locations are as follows:

12. VIRTUS REQUIREMENT
All parents will need to complete the VIRTUS training program (child protection and safety) for their candidates’ registration to be accepted. VIRTUS is a three hour in-person training that is held throughout the year at St. Margaret Mary Parish and at other parishes in the archdiocese. 13. PARENT FORMATION
As part of our movement towards Whole Community Catechesis, St. Margaret Mary Religious Education has implemented a parent component for all of our programs. What does this mean? Now, instead of just your children receiving faith formation, you, too, will meet with other parents and share faith, grow in knowledge of church traditions and values and, most importantly, foster community. Parent Faith Formation attendance at any 5 programmed events or be an RE Catechist, an Active member of the Holy Name, SMM Knights of Columbus, Woman Society is a requirement for all parents/guardians of children in all Religious Education Program.
